Living in the #bass capital, it's so easy to get caught up in how hard the Denver EDM scene goes. Sometimes we forget that the US in general is a hot spot for great artists and music scenes from LA to NY. Along with that, we have such a crowded scene and it's hard sometimes for many of our talented artists to get booked in their own great city. This forces them to venture out across state lines to rock shows at some of our neighboring states. When they do this it gives them an opportunity to mingle with some of the local talent in the other scenes and when they come back to #DNVR, they drop knowledge about who's hot around the country.
Recently, the homeboy Shua, rocked a show in New Mexico and had the time of his life. He told me, "They get crazy down there and this one guy E.R.G. really showed me how they get down!" When he told me that I started to listen to some of his tracks and mixes and realized this guy no doubt murders the decks. It's dope to hear about locals all over the country who are just as hungry and talented as the artists in our scene. It's interesting to hear what they think about the music scenes they support with regard to the similarities and differences to Denver's scene. It definitely solidifies the fact that the local artists are the ones to hit up about the hot spots around town whenever you're traveling away from home and need a fresh dose of bass!
I love the fact that E.R.G. is mad passionate about the TX and NM scenes. He stays busy constantly working on his craft but still making time to rock shows for the fans in his home state. Plus, I see him constantly showing love to everything going on in Denver as well. Spreading love for the music, supporting the scene in your state, and reppin' the other states in the region is what it's all about! He's steady rocking shows in TX, has hot releases on multiple labels, and already has the ear of some of the best in Denver. Because of that, I know he'll be rocking a booth in Denver very soon and I was pleased to have a chance to get to know him a little better and share his thoughts on all things BASS...
Bass'D Out DNVR: Do you like bass? What are your favorite genres?
ERG: I like all kinds of bass. I don't discriminate.Techno, Drum and Bass, Trap, Dubstep, Electro, Breaks, Moombahton. Anything heavy really. I try not only to mix but to produce different genres to keep it interesting.
BOD: What made you fall in love with dance music?
ERG: When I was younger my first album was The Fat of the Land by The Prodigy. I was absolutely blown away by that album. After that I started listening to Fatboy Slim and The Chemical Brothers and that was it, I was completely hooked. I was into it since I was a kid but I never even thought about making music or even releasing music officially.
BOD: What inspired you to start DJing? Who are your biggest musical influences?
ERG: As I got older I fell in love with the breaks scene. Elite Force, Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, Hyper were my main influences for me to start DJing. Then Elite Force and Meat Katie came up with the term "Tech Funk" which was electro, techno, house, and breaks which changed the way I mix for good. They mixed all these genres so seamlessly and that really inspired me to keep not only mixing but producing.
BOD: What's the Texas Scene like? What are the best places to play/party?
ERG: The scene is pretty good here in El Paso. You have festivals like Sun City and have great venues like Tricky Falls. There have been really good artists around here such as RL Grime, Zomboy, and Deadmau5 to name a few. There are a lot of good shows year round.
BOD: How involved in the TX scene were you before you started DJing? What types of events did you go to?
ERG: Before i started DJing the scene was awesome. There was a lot of diversity, from electro to techno. When i was in high school I used to go clubbing in mexico all the time as I lived on the border. I got to go to some of my best parties ever. Had a Chance to see DJ's like Boys Noize, Adam Freeland, Meat Katie, Felix Cartal, Don Diablo, Evil Nine among many many more. I was always inspired after every show.
BOD: If you could change something about the music scene what would it be?
ERG: The scene is great, i remember when i was in high school people always looked at me funny for being so into electronic music. Now that its mainstream an everyone is into it its not really a bad thing. The only thing i would change though is the fan base. What i mean is that now people don't care about listening to new things. They all want to hear the same tracks over and over. I mean there is nothing wrong to sticking to your favorite genre but try to be more receptive to different genres. There is so much good music that should be more popular than what it is but people just want to listen to the same stuff over and over.
BOD: Describe the feeling you get while performing live.
ERG: When i play out I focus on having a good time. I try to play out fun stuff so people can have a good time. Playing out is very exciting for my so I try to make my sets as entertaining as I can.
BOD: What are you doing to get your career to the next level?
ERG: I am always trying to keep busy producing. Always working on new music and getting new releases ready as often as i can. I am constantly trying new things to keep things fresh and unique.
BOD: Outside of music what are your passions?
ERG: Outside of music i actually love to cook. I was actually thinking about becoming a chef before going all out on my music.

My great friend in Berlin, Alja Knez who has been there helping me out from the start. Last but not least my homie, Jim Puga a.k.a. 2knobs for giving me a chance to work on his label Soma Music.
