Summer is heating up abnormally, quick in the Denver underground. With two days of Zeds Dead already in the rear view mirror and Global Dance Festival fast approaching, it's shaping up to be a wild month for bassheads throughout the state. Thus, over the next few months, many of us will be holding our 'Recuperation Sundays' near and dear to our hearts.

Fortunately, crews in the city offer a wide variety of easygoing Sunday Funday exploits to unwind with following a weekend of bass fueled debauchery. If you made your way out to the two-night Dead Rocks VI event and subsequent after parties, a Sunday steeped in rejuvenation was most likely your foremost priority. With all the Denver scene has to offer you seemingly can't go wrong with regards to a destination of choice. That is, unless you decided on an evening engineered by the Fantastic Hosts and their July iteration of The Fantastic Rumpus In The Sky.

Just as the name would Imply the Rumpus was anything but a quiet Sunday Afternoon. It definitely did, however, live up to the hype. While not much is known about the Fantastic Hosts themselves (their Facebook page alludes possible aliens origins and rough sex...?) rumblings about the rambunctiousness of the Rumpus revelries certainly speak on their behalf. Though the event progressed slowly from it's outset, it quickly escalated to a full-on Sunday night jump-off. Definitely a pleasant surprise.

The beats were definitely on point like a decimal all night. Malia set the pace early with a smooth mixture of energetic bass-driven melodies. Very reminiscent of her eclectic BOD guest mix. The undulating tempo of her set kept the crowd moving for the entire 2-hours with her commanding the wheels.

Mental69 checked in to the booth next just in time to see the last of the empty space vanish from the dance floor. In autonomous fashion, he immediately boosted the tempo, firing up the crowd and kicking the party into full swing. Check out his full set from the night below.

Just before nightfall, the revelers of the Rumpus were corralled and ushered to the Underground for the final leg of the journey in sound. Dubwood delivered a delectable final course of genre bending beats feeding the bass heads who continued to meander along the dance floor throughout the night.

The best part of the July edition of Rumpus In The Sky (besides having no cover) was the energy on the dance floor from beginning to end. Furthermore, the laid back vibes of the mature crowd were the perfect ending to a fast-paced weekend. More than anything, it's always dope to see people come out and support local artists- for the love of bass.
